Art at the Farm House: Marilyn Wood

Friday 8 June, 7:30pm

The foyer and café space at Love’s Farm House plays host to a rolling programme of art exhibitions by local artists. Our next exhibitor is Marilyn Wood.

Marilyn 1During her time spent studying fashion design at Newcastle upon Tyne College of Art and Industrial Design, Marilyn entered the prestigious Nation Wide bursary competition held by the Royal Academy of Art. In 1961 she won this competition in the Fashion Design category. The prize money allowed her to travel to Paris and study at the Jean Darroux Academy for six weeks to learn the art of couture making by directly modelling fabric onto the tailor’s dummy to create garments. Showing at Love’s Farm House Gallery is the body of work she submitted to the Royal Academy.

FullSizeRenderSince graduating, most of Marilyn’s working life has been in the fashion industry, working variously as a pattern cutter, production manager and design studio manager. She has run a theatre wardrobe department and worked in various Colleges and Universities teaching her craft.

Now living on Love’s Farm, Marilyn is exploring and experimenting with other art expressions and will have some of her recent twig collages on display. The exhibition launch evening is on Friday 8 June from 7:30pm — everyone is welcome and the bar will be open.

Trustees Required

Love's Farm House logoLove’s Farm House is managed by Love’s Farm Community Centre CIO, a charity set up by members of LFCA and other local residents. We have our annual general meeting (AGM) on 20 October 2017 and would like to welcome new trustees to our board.

The trustees are volunteers who take overall responsibility for the community centre. At our monthly trustee meetings (on the first Wednesday of each month) we discuss things such as finances, marketing and fundraising, setting hire rates, defining policies and procedures, employing and managing staff, planning events and ensuring that we always act in accordance with our constitution and mission statement. We also do lots of practical jobs: gardening, running the bar and café, building maintenance and helping out wherever it’s needed. There’s lots to do but it’s really rewarding.

Some of our trustees are also regular hirers of the building, and it’s useful to have a range of ages, backgrounds and interests to help us serve all parts of the community. Click here for more information from The Charity Commission about what’s involved.

If you’re interested in becoming a trustee (or would like to volunteer in any other way), we’d love to hear from you. Please email chair@lovesfarmhouse.co.uk or call 01480 262626. Please get in touch by 1st October.
